At Improbable, we believe that the next revolution in entertainment and society will come from massive virtual worlds. They will create new economies and opportunities globally, changing not just how we play, but how we work and relate to each other. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to build the next generation of technologies for online multi-user games and simulations.

Venture Builder

Improbable is a Venture Builder. We are working with leaders to create businesses in AI transformation, the metaverse and web3. We both create businesses from scratch and invest in existing businesses. Our central teams work with ventures to help them achieve success whilst having oversight across our portfolio of activity. At Improbable, you are surrounded by people who want to improve everything and everyone around them, and who compel you to improve yourself. We’re motivated by the fulfilment of solving hard problems to achieve something profound and transformative.

Your Mission

Be a force multiplier for our investment and venture-building capabilities. You will help identify, validate, and support the most promising investment opportunities by bringing rigorous analytical thinking, commercial insight, and strategic clarity to everything you do. Your work will directly influence high-conviction investment decisions and empower portfolio companies to make smarter, faster choices on their path to scale. You will serve as a bridge between early-stage vision and actionable strategy, driving both precision and pace across our venture creation and support activities.

Your Opportunity

  • Conduct deep market and thematic research across priority investment areas to shape opportunity pipelines and support thesis-led investing

  • Lead and contribute to business case development for ventures incepted by Improbable, as well as the commercial and financial due diligence of external start-ups, including market sizing, competitive benchmarking, unit economics, and scenario modelling

  • Produce clear, concise investment recommendations and materials for internal Investment Committee deliberations

  • Work alongside portfolio founders and executive teams to define business models, validate go-to-market strategies, and build operating plans

  • Provide ongoing strategic decision support to ventures post-investment, such as pricing analysis, fundraising readiness, and strategic planning

  • Monitor industry trends, investor activity, and portfolio performance to inform Improbable’s investment strategy

  • Collaborate with senior team members to evolve and scale our end-to-end investment processes.

Why You’re Made for This

  • Care deeply about impact and motivated by the opportunity to shape the trajectory of early-stage companies in the Metaverse, Web3, and AI ecosystems

  • Have 4+ years’ experience within one or more of strategy consulting, investment banking, venture capital, or corporate development, contributing to buy-side investment processes (venture, M&A) or sell-side capital activity (raising capital, M&A)

  • Have strong analytical and commercial acumen, and you are comfortable navigating ambiguity and fast-changing data

  • Track record of driving rigorous analyses and delivering clear recommendations that inform high-stakes decisions

  • Strong proficiency in financial modelling and have experience building business cases, and contributing to investment memos, or board-level presentations.

  • Thrive in collaborative, entrepreneurial environments and can confidently engage with founders and senior stakeholders

  • Bonus: experience working in early-stage startups, venture studios or founder-led teams

While we think the above experience could be important, we’re keen to hear from people that believe they have valuable experience to bring to the role. If you identify with the team and mission, but not all of our requirements, then please still apply.

What do you do in a strategy job?

A strategy job typically involves identifying opportunities for growth and development for a company or organization, as well as developing plans to achieve those objectives

Depending on the specific role and industry, a strategy job might involve tasks such as market research, analyzing data, identifying trends and patterns, formulating business plans and proposals, forecasting revenue and expenses, identifying risks and opportunities, and communicating recommendations to senior management

Some examples of specific strategy jobs might include business strategy, marketing strategy, product strategy, corporate strategy, and operations strategy

In each of these areas, the primary goal is to develop a comprehensive plan that will help the company achieve its goals and objectives, while minimizing risks and maximizing opportunities

This might involve working with other departments within the organization, as well as external stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, and industry experts

In addition to these specific tasks, a strategy job often requires strong analytical skills, creativity, strategic thinking, and excellent communication and collaboration skills

Successful strategy professionals must be able to work well with others, develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, and effectively communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
