Who We Are
Every 3 seconds a girl becomes a child bride. At VOW for Girls, we partner with community programs around the world that are already working to empower young girls, protect them from child marriage and give them opportunities to thrive.
We were founded when Mabel van Oranje, an avid human rights activist, had an aha moment at a wedding. What if she could marry the wedding industry to the cause she championed and end the international child marriage crisis? Darren Walker, the president of the Ford Foundation, got on board. And together they started VOW for Girls, the growing global movement that partners with brands and individuals to end child marriage.
We’re on a mission to empower girls everywhere to love on their own terms. And we need world-changers like you to make this possible. Learn more at vowforgirls.org.
Job Description
We’re looking for a brilliantly creative storyteller ✨ to join our digital team as our new creative director.
We’re a collaborative team that tells compelling stories and dreams big together. You’d report to Cameron, our VP of Digital Fundraising and Marketing and work closely with Morgan (Community Engagement), our Social Media Manager (we’re also hiring for this! 🦄) and people across the team.
You would craft the voice and visual storytelling that will help us reach more people and empower more girls. You would develop a brand that inspires, a voice that establishes us as a thought leader and content that engages donors and celebrates wins with them.
You’ll have the support to take brave risks and create work that is truly remarkable. To test and learn to determine what content not only captivates but drives action, converts donors and spreads our cause. And you’ll have the support and collaboration of our full digital team behind you.
And on our team, you’ll have incredible purpose, knowing that each creative project or campaign you lead will be supporting girls and freeing them from child marriage.
Who You Are
You’re a brand builder, a content creator and truly passionate about collaborating with your team for social good.
You know how to find the story that stands out in the ordinary and develop it into something extraordinary. You can do a lot with a little, taking snippets of content and turning them into engaging social, emails, campaigns and more.
You see where creative and marketing beautifully meet to inspire both brand affinity and tangible actions that can be trackable and scalable to increase our impact.
You have a portfolio that blows us away. Or maybe you have a video reel that we just can’t stop watching. When we see what you’ve made, we’re going to be impressed with how you uniquely approach content.
Important: We want you to apply even if you don’t check 100% of these boxes. Please include a portfolio or links, so we can see what makes you stand out.
What You’ll Do
- Be the lead on the digital team for all things brand and killer content
- Tell captivating stories that spread like wildfire and inspire people to join our movement.
- Create compelling video, social, email and website content that people love engaging with
- Build the narrative told across our website, social, press / pr, podcasts and other publications
- Create a storytelling process for us to capture content from the field and a strategy for sharing it with our donors.
- Engage our donors with stories, wins and content that invites them into a community and makes their impact clear, tangible and shareable.
- Grow our library of photos, videos, messaging and content for social media, website and for how we present VOW to potential brand and funding partners.
- Develop digital fundraising campaigns that reach new people, drive social actions and bring in new donors to empower girls.
- Own the VOW website, from messaging, redesign, content and landing pages that captivate, engage and convert new supporters.
- Find opportunities to share VOW through public relations, thought leadership, and influencer / celebrity engagement, with support from partner agencies you’ll manage.
- Be a part of our collaborative brainstorms as we dream big and come up with world-changing ideas
- Establish our voice as a thought leader in the girls’ rights and social good space.
- Speak into important moments happening on social and around the globe
- Educate people on the problems of child marriage and gender inequality in a way that connects and spreads quickly
- Test, learn, dig into the data and find how we can create authentic growth at scale
- Hear Cameron talk about good chocolate and coffee brands you should check out (this happens a lot)
- You’ve developed real human stories that build a powerful narrative that inspires action
- You know how to take an idea and uniquely adapt it to stand out on each medium (video, articles, social, email, website, audio, live events and press — maybe even cave drawings)
- You’ve made a notable impact on the brands you’ve worked with to help them visually stand out, clarify their message and create immersive experiences that build rapport with the people who follow them
- You already have ideas for how we can reach more people and you have the energy to create those campaigns from thought to launch.
- You love learning from others’ experience and sharing what you know
- Building culture and community with your team is a high priority for you
- You’re a creative thinker, love dreaming big and taking the risks to get there
- You love learning from other brands and finding creative inspiration in unexpected places
- It also doesn’t matter how many years experience you have, just that you have a clearly amazing track record that proves you’re good at this.
- Again, we want to know what makes you exceptional at this, not that you can check every box
- The girls we support are what’s most important here. So, show us why you’re the best person to develop a creative strategy that frees as many girls as possible.
- When you send in your portfolio, we can see the amazing work you’ve done
- Having experience growing audiences from nothing to tens or hundreds of thousands. (still apply if you haven’t)
- You may have led viral or award-winning campaigns over the years
- Bringing in-person or live-streaming event experience is a plus.
- (Even more if you have experience with OBS and streaming live on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)
- If you’ve also built out SEO / SEM strategies as part of your content plan
- Experience running ad campaigns on social media, Google, etc
- Or maybe you bring some advanced email marketing / automation skills to the table.
- If you’ve worked with celebrities and major influencers over the years, please let us know.
- Experience building or rebranding websites.
- Any experience producing podcasts and other successful audio content.
- Let us know if you’re a talented animator (Pixar, here we come!)
- Any experience within the crypto and web3 space is a definite plus. (but don’t let this one trip you up if you don’t)
- If you bring other digital marketing or creative skills to the table, we’d love to hear about them.
