Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Accounting Manager to join our team. This role reports to the Head of Finance. The ideal candidate will provide a strong contribution towards various financial aspects of Chainsafe. This includes budget vs actuals variance analysis, leading the consolidated financial reporting packages for month-end, and ensuring tax compliance in both Canada (Harmonized Sales Tax, annual filings) and the US (State tax filings). The Accounting Manager will also play an integral role in liaising with external tax advisors for filing requirements related to SR&ED, Transfer Pricing, and other tax-related matters. This means ensuring transfer pricing agreements and inter-company transactions are processed both correctly and timely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consolidated Financial Reporting: Ownership of the consolidated financial reporting packages for month-end and quarter-end closing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. This includes ensuring completion of supporting monthly schedules; bank, inter-company and other reconciliations as needed. Provide commentary to Management related to key variances within the monthly results.
- Budget vs Actuals Variance Analysis: Key support to the Head of Finance with analysis on actual performance against budgets at a departmental level. Identify variances, and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
- Financial Modelling: Develop and maintain financial models as needed to support strategic decision-making, forecast future financial performance and cash runway.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations, including HST (Harmonized Sales Tax), and U.S. state tax requirements, including income tax filings and other regulatory reporting. Ensure accurate payroll tax filings as required (EHT, T4âs, Source Deductions).
- Liaison with Tax Advisors: Ownership of relationship with external tax advisors and consultants to facilitate the preparation and filing of tax documents. This includes requirements related to SRED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development), Transfer Pricing and Annual Compilations.
- Financial Analysis: Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and provide insights to support management decision-making and optimize financial performance.
- Risk Management: Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them, ensuring the company's financial stability and security.
- Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve financial processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control. This includes enhancing financial controls environment and other process improvements to enhance the finance department.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; a professional certification (CPA, CFA) is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management or related roles.
- Consolidation experience in a multi-entity international company
- Web 3/Crypto experience and interest is highly desirable
- Strong expertise in financial modelling, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Experience with inter-company transactions, wholly-owned subsidiaries and transfer pricing processes
- Experience with Canadian and U.S. state tax regulations and compliance.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., Excel/Google sheets, QuickBooks).
- Solid understanding of Financial Statements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
- Proactive and results-driven mindset.
- Ability to work with little to no supervision
